Grade Calculator
Work out your current class grade from weighted categories or raw points — and what you need on the final.
How to use
Three modes, and you can move between them freely — nothing is lost when you switch.
Weighted categories is the usual syllabus setup: homework 20%, quizzes 15%, midterm 25%, final 40%. Put your percentage in each category and its weight from the syllabus. Raw points is for classes graded purely on points earned out of points possible, and can drop your lowest scores. Final exam needed answers the question everyone actually asks: what do I have to score on the final to finish with the grade I want?
If your weights do not add to 100
They often will not — either the syllabus is uneven, or you have only entered the categories graded so far. The tool divides by the weight you actually entered rather than by 100, so a half-finished term still shows a meaningful average instead of a artificially low one. The running total is displayed so you can see which it is.
The final-exam formula
With C as your current grade, w as the final's share of the course, and T as your target, the score you need is (T − C × (1 − w)) ÷ w. The table lists what each letter grade would take, so you can see at a glance which ones are still in reach — and which have already been secured no matter how the final goes.
A required score above 100% is shown rather than hidden. It means the grade is out of reach on the final alone, which is worth knowing early enough to ask about extra credit.
A caution
This is arithmetic on the numbers you give it. It does not know about curves, dropped categories, extra credit, or a professor who rounds up — check the result against your syllabus and your course page before making a decision based on it.
